Mitigation

MITIGATION

The more that is done before the disaster strikes, means more resilience, less impact and better outcomes. Mitigation. We need to look at repetitive loss areas, changing development zones, opportunities for “win-win” projects that promote dual use…providing both protection and improvement. Reviewing flood maps. Looking at code enforcement. Building partnerships with risk management. Making the population aware of flood insurance coverage. Exploring and acting on grant opportunities. All of these are components of pre-disaster mitigation.

Post-disaster mitigation consists of getting the word out on what can be done to keep a bad situation from becoming worse. Controlling mold. Proper restoration techniques. Advising on substantial damage cases. At NWEM, we’ve seen these efforts pay at all levels. Jurisdictions that practice successful pre-disaster mitigation often can see improvement on areas that can be developed and added to revenue producing property. Individuals and organizations that practice rapid post-disaster mitigation most always have a better outcome. Let NWEM be a part of your mitigation efforts!
